Ingredient list

  • 1-cup semolina/sooji
  • ½ tsp. mustard seeds
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 tsp. grated coconut
  • 2 tsp. roasted peanuts
  • 3-4 leafs of curry
  • 3 green chilies chopped
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. gram dal
  • 1 tsp. black split gram dal
  • Salt according to taste
  • 2-3 cups boiling water
  • Garnishing, few tomato slices, chopped green coriander

Preparation

  • In a pan roast the semolina on low flame and stir continuously till the semolina gives out a nice aroma, takes about 5-6 minute
  • In an another pan heat the oil and add the mustard seeds when it sputter add green chilies, curry leaves.
  • Add onions & fry it till it golden
  • Add 1tsp. gram dal and 1tsp. black split gram dal into this mixture and cooks till the dals are pink.
  • Now pour 2 cups of water in the mixture above and let it boil, stir well.
  • Then add roasted semolina and salt into this boiling water and stir.
  • Keep on low and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add lemon juice and grated coconut & roasted peanuts & mix well.
  • Decorate with tomato slices & chopped green coriander.

Notes

Serve with green chutney or sauce. Goes very well with coffee or tea.
