Utensil care tips
- Soak burnt pans with solution of ammonia and water for an hour after that clean with used lemon & then with soap & water. The burn residue will come right off.
- For a smelly cutting board rub it with a sliced lemon or lime with baking soda.
- If Bottles are Smelly- Fill bottle half-full of water and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Shake well and allow standing for about 1 hour.
- If Bottles are Dirty- If the bottlebrush just doesn't cut it, fill the bottle half-full of warm soapy water and add a handful of split peas. Shake vigorously.
- Remove stains from vases by rubbing with a vinegar soaked paper towel.
- To get rid of the white residue on glasses after washing them in the dishwasher, run the dishwasher with glasses only and one cup of vinegar.
- To clean oil containers or flasks without a mess, add bits of old newspapers, a little soap powder and water, shake well and then clean it with water. The container will sparkle like new.
- If Aluminum ware is Stained or darkened --Boil 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar in 1 quart of water for 10 minutes to lighten darkened aluminum.
- If Aluminum ware is dirty - Boil apple peels in aluminum pots: it will make cleaning them (the pots) much easier.
- On non-stick cookware, stubborn stains can be removed by boiling 2 tablespoons of baking soda, ½-cup vinegar, and 1 cup of water for ten minutes.
- Spirits of camphor will remove grass stains and other stains from white shoes.
- To remove cooked-on residue from a nonstick skillet, cover with 1/2-inch of water. Heat until the water boils; the cooked food will loosen and can be wiped away.
- Cleaning vessels - Add a handful of common salt to the washing powder to clean them.
- Add some citric acid to cleaning powder for cleaning brass and copper ware.
- If dishes or Plates are stained- Soak overnight in a mixture of hot water and soda. Then rub in vinegar moisten cloth dipped in salt. This works very well with tea stains.
- Rub used lemon halves dipped in salt over greasy pans.
- Save old toothbrushes for quick cleaning of difficult corners and grooves.
- Cleaning Silver Ornaments - Dip it in the curd whey for at least an hour or so & then wash with soap. They will sparkle.
- Cleaning Mirrors or Glass - Rub them first with wet and then with dry newspaper. If the stain still doesn't goes rub it vigorously, your mirror will sparkle without leaving any marks.
- Scratches in glassware will disappear if polished with toothpaste. Tackle slightly deeper blemishes with brass polish or jeweler's polishing powder.
- Cleaning pots- while pots are still hot, drizzle with a little vinegar, sprinkle with salt; rub with a sponge, and rinse.
